The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with the Canada West Universities Athletics Association are pleased to announce that wrestler Jessica Brenton has been named the Canada West Female Rookie of the Year. The announcement was made at the Canada West Wrestling Championships Awards Banquet this evening in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Brenton finished the two day event with a record of 3-1. Her only loss was on Friday night to the eventual first place winner Koren Pitkethly from the University of Saskatchewan.
Earlier in the day,Brenton qualified for the CIS Women's Wrestling Championships after finishing in second place in the 59 kg weight class. She finished the two day event with a record of 3-1. The CIS Men's and Women's Wrestling Championships will be hosted by Lakehead University on February 24-25 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Other Wesmen Final Placings: Caroline Tess finished in fourth place in the women's 67 kg class. On the men's side Mat Tripple finished in fourth in the (76 kg) class and Nathan Sullivan finished in fifth place in the (72 kg) class.
