Women's Basketball vs Saskatchewan
WESMEN 66 Saskatchewan 70 (OT) Boxscore
The Saskatchewan Huskied erased a 12 point deficit after three quarters to force overtime and came out on top defeating the Winnipeg Wesmen 70-66 Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
The no. 4 ranked Huskies trailed 49-37 after three quarters but outscored the Wesmen 20-8 in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 57-57 after regulation time.
Fifth year guard Katie Miyazaki led the Huskies with 15 points. Kabree Howard and Dalyce Emmerson each scored 12. Emmerson also grabbed 12 rebounds for the double-double. Kelsey Trulsrud also had a double-double consisting of 10 points and a game high 13 rebounds. Howard also dished out six assists.
Second year guard Stephanie Kleysen led Winnipeg with a game high 22 points. Alyssa Grant and Amy Ogidan each scored 16. Ogidan led the team in rebounds with 10. Kleysen also finished with three assists and four steals.
Winnipeg came out on fire in the opening quarter and held a 16-10 lead after the opening ten minutes and continued to outplay the Huskies in the second quarter by outscoring Saskatchewan 14-9 to take a 30-19 lead into the halftime break.
The Wesmen opened up the second half on a 9-2 run to extend their lead 39-21 four minutes into the third frame. Winnipeg continued to carry the play and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the quarter.
Saskatchewan chipped away at the Wesmen lead in the early stages of the fourth quarter reeling off eight straight points in the opening three minutes to cut the Wesmen lead to 49-45. After an exchange of baskets, Kabree Howard drained a three pointer with 2:45 to tie the score at 53-53 and after a Winnipeg turnover a basket by Dalyce Emmerson gave the Huskies their first lead since the opening minute at 55-53. Alyssa Grant tied the game at 55-55 and after another exchange of baskets and a last second shot by Miyazaki hit the rim, the teams were headed for overtime.
The Huskies outscored the Wesmen 13-9 in the overtime period.
The win improves the Huskies record to 13-4. Winnipeg falls to 8-10. Saskatchewan will be home to Manitoba next weekend. Winnipeg will be on the road in Calgary to face the Dinos.
Note: Fifth year players Amy Ogidan, Mackenzie Prasek and Heather Hildebrandt all played their final regular season home games. The trio were recognized in a special pre-game ceremony.
Men's Basketball vs Saskatchewan
WESMEN 74 Saskatchewan 95 Boxscore
Jamelle Barrett and Peter Lomuro combined for 44 points to lead the Saskatchewan Huskies to a 95-74 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen Saturday evening in Winnipeg.
Barrett finished the game with 25 points, including a trio of three pointers to along with six assists. Lomuro added 19 points, with three-three pointers.
The victory improves the no. 4 ranked Huskies record to 13-4. Winnipeg with the loss falls to 4-14.
Michael Lieffers also had a strong game for the Huskies scoring 12 points and grabbing a game high 13 rebounds.
Mark McNee led the Wesmen with 24 points and eight rebounds. James Horaska finished with 13. Andrew Cunningham added 10 points and seven assists.
The game started out a close affair with the Huskies leading 25-20 after the opening quarter. Winnipeg stayed within striking distance of the Huskies in the early stages of the second quarter until a three-pointer by Lomuro extended the Huskie lead to 37-26, their largest lead to that point. Winnipeg fought back later on, scoring six straight points to cut the deficit to 40-35 with 2:23 left in the opening half. Jamelle Barrett scored two baskets in the final 1:35 to send the Huskies into the halftime break leading 44-38.
In the third quarter Barrett nailed a pair of three-pointers to extend the Huskie lead to double digits. A three-pointer by Benny Iko cut the deficit to 58-49 with 2:25 left but Winnipeg trailed 63-53 after thirty minutes. In the fourth quarter Saskatchewan carried the play for the opening five minutes when Winnipeg made a charge. A three point play by James Horaska brought Winnipeg to within six points, 75-69 but Barrett hit three-free throws and converted a three point play down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
The Huskies will entertain Manitoba next weekend. Winnipeg will close out the regular season in Calgary against the Dinos.
Note: Prior to the game fifth year players James Horaska, Joshua Stolar and Craig Sharpe were recognized in a special pre-game ceremony. All three players played their final home games.

Women's Basketball vs Saskatchewan
WESMEN 60 Saskatchewan 71 Boxscore
The no. 4 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies opened up a two game weekend series in Winnipeg with a 71-60 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen Friday night at the Duckworth Centre.
The Huskies with the victory improves their record to 12-4. The loss drops the Wesmen below .500 with a record of 8-9.
First year forward Dalyce Emmerson led the Huskies with a double-double 17 points and 13 rebounds. Mary Hipperson and Kabree Howard each scored 10. Guard Katie Miyazaki grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out six assists.
Winnipeg was led by third year forward Alyssa Grant's 14 points, including four-three pointers. Yael Kaplan added 10, Tia Coulter, Amy Ogidan and Alex Warburton each scored nine. Stephanie Kleysen led the team with 12 rebounds.
The Huskies thanks to a hot shooting opening quarter opened up a 23-13 lead. Saskatchewan connected on 10-of-15 (67%) from the field in the opening ten minutes. Winnipeg did not lay down that easy. A 9-2 run in the opening 3:30 of the second quarter cut the deficit to 25-22. Saskatchewan regrouped scoring six unanswered points soon after to extend their lead to 31-22. The Huskies went into the halftime break leading 33-24.
After a slow opening three minutes to start to the second half, Saskatchewan continued to lead by double-digits for the remainder of the third quarter, outscoring Winnipeg 21-13 to hold a 54-37 lead after three quarters.
Winnipeg managed to outscore Saskatchewan 23-17 in the final quarter but were unable to make a dent into the Huskies lead.
The Wesmen and Huskies will wrap up their weekend series Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

The Saskatchewan Huskies regrouped from a slow start to defeat the Winnipeg Wesmen 91-61 Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
The victory improves the no. 4 ranked Huskies to 12-4.The loss drops Winnipeg to 4-13 on the season.
Five Huskie players scored in double digits with Winnipeg native Peter Lomuro leading the way with 18 points. Guard Jamelle Barrett added 16 points and eight assists. Chris Unsworth had 13, followed by Michael Lieffers with 12 and Matthew Forbes with 11. Lieffers led the team with a game high 15 rebounds.
Travis Krahn led the Wesmen with 15 points, including four-three pointers. Andew Cunningham added 10 points and eight assists. Krahn and Brayden Duff shared the team in rebounds with five each.
After falling behind 17-10 in the opening quarter, the Huskies reeled off 13 unanswered points to take a 23-17 lead late in the quarter. Back-to-back baskets by Jamelle Barrett extended the lead even further with the score 27-19 after the opening ten minutes. Once again a big run by Saskatchewan extended their lead, this time around an 11-0 run just past the midway point of the second quarter pushed the Huskies lead to 51-22. Saskatchewan continued to put the pressure on the Wesmen, outscoring Winnipeg 28-9 to open up a 55-28 lead at halftime.
Winnipeg played better in the third quarter and managed to outscore the Huskies 21-13 in the quarter but still trailed 68-49 after thirty minutes. The Huskies closed out the contest outscoring the Wesmen 23-12 in the final quarter to make the final tally 91-61.
The Wesmen and Huskies will wrap up their two game weekend series on Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
