The Wesmen picked their spots early in the frame, jumping out to an early 6-4 lead.   The Bisons came alive after a Winnipeg timeout closing the gap to 18-16.  The two clubs traded points until the scoreboard read 24-24. Just when it looked like Manitoba was going to take the lead, a miscue by Bisons senior Kristi Hunter resulted in a point for the Wesmen. Manitoba couldn’t recover, and the Wesmen won the set 28-26. In the second set the Bisons made their mark by never trailing in the set. While the Wesmen did make it close, the set truly belonged to the Bisons as they evened the game 1-1, winning the frame 25-23.

Manitoba started the third set strong building an early lead until Ellina Domnidou threw down three consecutive kills to put the Wesmen up 12-11.  After Manitoba tied it up on a Winnipeg service error it was tic-for-tack throughout the rest of the set. That’s until Buchanan turned up her defensive play by blocking multiple Bisons attempts. Buchanan’s play ignited the Wesmen, as they pulled ahead 22-16 and eventually closed out the set on a kill by Ozana Nikolic. Winnipeg won the third set 25-17. Winnipeg jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the fourth set on the strength of the timely serves of Domnidou and never looked back. Winnipeg’s Brittany Habing served the game’s winning serve, as the Wesmen won the game’s last set by a score of 25-16.

Winnipeg will have the bye next week as Conference play wraps up. The Wesmen will host the best of three quarterfinal series on Thursday, February 16 (Game One), Friday, February 17 (Game Two) and if necessary Game Three on Saturday, February 18. The opponent is yet to be determined.
