The Number One Ranked High School Men's Volleyball Player In Manitoba, Casey Schouten Has Commited To Joining Head Coach Larry McKay's Team This September..
The number one ranked high school men’s volleyball player in Manitoba is joining the Winnipeg Wesmen. Head coach Larry McKay is pleased to announce the commitment of Casey Schouten of Miles Macdonell Collegiate to the men’s volleyball program for the start of the 2012-2013 Canada West season this upcoming September.
Schouten joins the Wesmen with an impressive resume. The 6’5 right side was named the MHSAA Boy’s Volleyball Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Manitoba Team. He played a vital role in leading the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes to the AAAA Provincial Volleyball Championship last November where his strong play led to his naming as the Most Valuable Player. “Casey is a strong skilled player. Through his development in the WinMan Volleyball Club system, his time at River East Collegiate and this year at Miles Mac, he has played three different positions. Excellent coaching and opportunity combined with Casey's desire to improve along with his physical growth have made him a top university prospect. We have been blessed to have had many of Canada’s finest players in the past four decades and won ten National Championships. We are confident Casey will add to this rich history” said Wesmen head coach Larry McKay.
Schouten has also been playing in the club system since Grade 8 as a member of the WinMan Volleyball Club coached by Tim Au. He was recently named an All-Star at the 2011 Western Elites held in Kelowna, British Columbia.
“Casey Schouten is a phenomenal athlete. Although Casey possesses many natural talents, one of Casey’s greatest attributes is that he is very coachable and is willing to work hard. Casey is always striving to improve his game and this attribute will allow him to succeed at the CIS level”, said Miles Macdonell and Winman Volleyball Club head coach Tim Au.
He currently possesses an academic average of 80% and will graduate in June. Schouten has ambitions to study Kinesiology at the University of Winnipeg next September.
