The Winnipeg Wesmen wrapped up the 45th Annual Wesmen Classic with a convincing 82-49 victory over the UBC Okanagan Heat Friday afternoon at the Duckworth Centre.

Mark McNee led the Wesmen with a game high 21 points and nine rebounds. McNee was named Player of the Game for his performance. Travis Krahn added 14 points, including three-three pointers. Third year forward Brayden Duff added 12 points and fifth year guard James Horaska playing in his final Classic finished with 10. First year guard Bret Macdonald led the Heat with 13 points.Yassine Ghomari added 11 points, five assists. Winnipeg fell behind 13-1 at the midway point of the first quarter but found their legs in the final four minutes to trail 17-16 after one. The Wesmen continued to ride the momentum in the second quarter outscoring the Heat 23-11 to lead 39-28 at halftime. Winnipeg continued to put pressure on the Heat in the second half scoring 43 points and limiting the Heat to 21 points in the final twenty minutes. Winnipeg finishes the Classic with a record of 2-1. The Heat finish the tournament with a record of 1-2.

The Valley City State University Vikings defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 93-85 in overtime in the semi final of the Coca Cola Wesmen Classic.The teams were tied at 81-81 after regulation time forcing the extra period where the Vikings outscored Winnipeg 12-4. Valley City advances to the Championship Final Friday night at 8:00 p.m. against the winner of the Brandon/UBC Okanagan semi final. Sekani Milligen led the Vikings with 26 points. Sylvester Walker added 19. Aaron Duske finished with a double-double 17 points and 11 rebounds. Fourth year forward Eric Zimmerman led the Wesmen with a game high 27 points. Travis Krahn and Andrew Cunningham each finished with 17. Winnipeg fell behind 15-0 early on and trailed 28-16 after one quarter. The Wesmen found their legs in the second quarter outscoring the Vikings 21-16 to cut the deficit to 44-37 at halftime. The dramatics were saved for the closing seconds of the fourth quarter. Travis Krahn hit a pair of free throws with 39 seconds left to pull the Wesmen to within three points 81-78. A pair of missed free throws by AJ McDonald proved costly as Dominique Brown nailed a three pointer with 19 seconds left to tie the score at 81-81. Krahn hit the rim at the buzzer to force overtime. Winnipeg will play in the third place game Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. against the loser of the Brandon/UBC Okanagan semi final.

WESMEN 78 Keyano College 70 Boxscore
It was not easy but the Winnipeg Wesmen advanced to the semi final round of the Coca Cola Wesmen Classic with a hard fought 78-70 victory over the Keyano College Huskies Wednesday night at the Duckworth Centre.
Eric Zimmerman led the Wesmen with 15 points, including a pair
of three-pointers. Guard Andrew Cunningham playing his first game since September was named Player of the Game after scoring 13 points, dishing out seven assists and coming away with five steals. Zach Alger- Waldher led the Huskies with 19 points. Louis Barham added 14. Winnipeg went into the halftime break leading 38-28. The Huskies cut into the Wesmen lead on several occasions in the second half but Winnipeg was able to hold off any charge by the visitors. Winnipeg will move onto to Thursday nights semi final against the Valley State University Vikings at 6:30 p.m.
