Men's Volleyball vs Thompson Rivers

Match Statistics
The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack left Winnipeg with a split in their weekend series against the University of Winnipeg. The WolfPack defeated the Wesmen 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16) in Saturday's match at the Duckworth Centre.
Winnipeg defeated the WolfPack in straight sets Friday night (29-27, 25-21, 25-20).
The WolfPack won the opening set 25-20 but Winnipeg managed to tie the match with a 25-23 win in the second set. Thompson Rivers came out on fire in the third set finishing with a hitting percentage of .452 on their way to a 25-19 win. The visitors closed out the match in the fourth set upending the Wesmen 25-16.
Aleks Saddlemyer led the WolfPack with 17 kills. Brad Gunter added 12 and Chris Osborne finished with 11. Setter Colin Carson had 44 assists and a match high 10 digs.
Winnipeg was led by the trio of Matthew Stubler, Ty Loewen and Brendan Black each finishing with six kills. Nathaniel Therrien led the Wesmen in digs with nine.
Thompson Rivers finished the match with 11 service aces, Winnipeg had five. The WolfPack had a 13-8 advantage in solo blocks.
The victory improves the WolfPack's record to 2-8. Winnipeg falls to an identical 2-8. The WolfPack will close out the first half at home next weekend against Trinity Western. Winnipeg will play host to the Regina Cougars on Friday and Saturday.

The fourth ranked Winnipeg Wesmen completed a weekend sweep against the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Saturday night with an impressive straight sets victory (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) at the Duckworth Centre.
Winnipeg was victorious in the opening match on Friday in five sets.
"We played a much more disciplined match tonight, we were focused and alert. I am pleased with the recovery from our Friday night performance", said Wesmen head coach Diane Scott.
The Wesmen were winners by identical 25-17 scores in the opening two sets. In the second set the Wesmen compiled an impressive .435 hitting percentage with only one attacking error. Set number three belonged to the home team as the Wesmen completed the straight sets win taking the third set by a score of 25-15.
Ozana Nikolic and Carleen Kruschel led the Wesmen with 11 kills each. Setter Brittany Habing had 34 assists and three service aces. Libero Tesca Andrew-Wasylik had a team high 11 digs. Lauren Sears had seven kills, three service aces and five blocks.
Amanda Frayne and Katarina Osadchuk led the WolfPack with seven kills. Sara Pettersson had a match high 12 digs. Setter Kara Twomey finished with 20 assists.
Winnipeg served up eight aces, compared to six by the WolfPack. Winnipeg finished the three set affair with a hitting percentage of .350.
Winnipeg improves to 8-2 with the win, while Thompson Rivers falls to 3-7.
Winnipeg will host Regina next weekend to wrap up their first half schedule. Thompson Rivers will welcome Trinity Western.

Women's Volleyball vs Thompson Rivers Match Statistics
WESMEN def Thompson Rivers 3-2 (25-22, 25-27,19-25, 25-8,15-12)
It was not easy but the fourth ranked Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in five sets (25-22, 25-27, 19-25, 25-8, 15-12) Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 7-2 on the season. Thompson Rivers falls to 3-6.
First year left side Ozana Nikolic led Winnipeg with a match high 22 kills and was strong on the defensive side with 18 digs. Fifth year middle Lauren Sears had 11 kills, six service aces and five solo blocks. Libero Tesca Andrew-Wasylik had a match high 25 digs. Setter Brittany Habing had 40 assists and three service aces.The WolfPack were led by second year middle Katarina Osadchuk's 14 kills. Amanda Frayne added 13 and Anne Weiss finished with 12 kills and a team leading 19 kills. Setter Kara Twomey finished with 43 assists.
In the first set the WolfPack grabbed the lead early on at 6-2 but the Wesmen thanks to five service aces regained the lead at 9-7. The teams exchanged points to the technical timeout with the WolfPack holding a 16-14 lead. Winnipeg's duo of Carleen Kruschel and Ozana Nikolic combined for five kills down the stretch to pace Winnipeg to a 25-22 win in the opening set.
Winnipeg carried their momentum into the second set leading 16-8 at the technical timeout only to see the WolfPack storm back to win the set 27-25.
Thompson Rivers took advantage of Winnipeg errors in the third set and went ahead in the match winning the set 25-19.
The Wesmen totally dominated set number four leading 16-4 at the break on their way to winning the set 25-8.
In a hard fought fifth set both teams battled to 9-9, when Winnipeg took control scoring three straight points to lead 12-9 late in the set. Winnipeg eventually went on to win the final set 15-12.
The two teams will meet Saturday night in the late match to close out the two match weekend series. Match time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Winnipeg Wesmen earned their first straight sets win of the regular season defeating the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 3-0 (29-27, 25-21, 25-20) Friday evening in Winnipeg.
The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 2-7, The WolfPack fall to 1-8 in the Canada West Men's Volleyball standings.
Third year outside Matt Stubler led the Wesmen with 13 kills. Ty Loewen and Brendan Black each finished with 10. Nathaniel Therrien had 11 digs to lead the team. Setter Zack Diboll had 35 assists.Aleks Saddlemyer led the WolfPack with 14 kills. Matt Krueger had 10 defensive digs and setter Colin Carson finished with 40 assists.
The WolfPack led in the opening set 16-15 at the technical timeout. The teams continued their battle all the way to 27-27 when back-to-back kills by Stubler paced Winnipeg to a 29-27 win in the opening set.
The second set was almost a carbon copy of the first. The WolfPack led at the technical 16-15 but Winnipeg stormed back to win the set 25-21 and take control of the match leading two sets to none.
In the third set Winnipeg trailed 16-14 at the break but rallied late in the set to trail 20-19. Winnipeg ended the match scoring six unanswered points to win the third set 25-20.
The two teams will play in the early match Saturday night. Match time is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
