Dominique Pereira Commits To Men's Volleyball Program
The University of Winnipeg and Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Larry McKay are pleased to announce that setter/right side Dominique Pereira from College Jeanne Sauvé has committed to the University of Winnipeg Men’s Volleyball program for the start of the 2009-2010 season.
Pereira, 6’4” was the starting setter and team captain for the Olympiens Varsity Team this past season.
He was named the 2009 College Jeanne Sauvé Athlete of the Year and the 2008 Volleyball MVP. Pereira was named a Provincial All-Star and selected to the Graduating All-Star team in 2008.
An accomplished club player, he was a member of the Strike Volleyball team that won the gold medal at the 2009 Tier One Provincial Championships.
Dominique was a member of Manitoba’s Provincial Teams for three years (2006-2008) and was the starting setter and captain for the silver medal winning Team Manitoba at the 2008 Francophone Games in Edmonton, Alberta. His outstanding play at the games led to his selection as Team Manitoba’s flag bearer at the closing ceremonies.
“A taller setter who can jump, Dominique is the second Cam Johnson protege to set for the Wesmen. Dan Lother, entering his 4th year, also graduated from College Jeanne Sauvé. Cam was a very intelligent player here for us from 1996 to 2000 and his players like Dominique and Dan have displayed that same characteristic”, added Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Larry McKay.
