Wesmen Have Successful Weekend

It Was A Successful Weekend For The Wesmen. In Total Wesmen Teams Won Eight Of Nine Games Played In The Past Three Days..

Women's Soccer vs Providence College
WESMEN 5  Providence College 0

Sheri Hince scored two goals to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a regular season ending  5-0 victory over Providence College on a windy and cool Sunday afternoon at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.

Jeanine Froese, Chelsea Kwasnicki and Kayla White added singles for the Wesmen.

Winnipeg finishes the 2011 MCAC regular season with a perfect 6-0 record. Winnipeg will head to next week's MCAC Women's Soccer Final Four at Red River College as the number one seed.

The Wesmen will face the number four seed Red River College Rebels in one semi final next Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. #2 CMU will play #3 Providence College in the early semi final at 10:00 a.m. The winners will play in the Championship Match next Sunday (October 23) at 1:00 p.m.


Men's Soccer vs Providence College

WESMEN 4  Providence College 0

The Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Providence College Freemen 4-0 Sunday afternoon to finish the regular season unbeaten.

Winnipeg finishes the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record. The Wesmen will head to next weekend's MCAC Men's Soccer Final Four at Red River College as the number one seed.

Kenny Sacramento continued his strong play scoring two goals. Amos Ganyea and Richard Rundle added singles.

The Wesmen will face the number four seed St. Boniface College in one semi final match next Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. #2 Providence will take on #3 Red River College in the first semi final at 12:00 p.m. The Championship Match will take place next Sunday (October 23) at 3:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball vs Trinity Western "U of Manitoba Invitational"
WESMEN 61  Trinity Western 74

The Trinity Western University Spartans defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 74-61 Sunday afternoon at the University of Manitoba Invitational Tournament.

Fifth year guard Amy Ogidan led Winnipeg with 15 points and three assists. Yael Kaplan had a strong game with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Stephanie Kleysen and Alyssa Grant each added 10 points.

Holly Strom led the Spartans with a game high 18 points.

Winnipeg was on fire in the opening half shooting 48% from the field and on their way to building a 33-28 lead at halftime.

The Spartans took the game over in the second half outscoring Winnipeg 46-28 to make the final score 74-61.

Second year guard Stephanie Kleysen was named to the tournament all-star team. Kleysen averaged 15.2 points per game and 10 rebounds in the three games played including two double-doubles.

Winnipeg will continue their non-conference schedule next Friday and Saturday at the Mayville St. Invitational Tournament.

Men's Volleyball vs Brandon in Portage La Prarie (non-conference)

Wesmen def Brandon 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-20)

The Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Brandon University Bobcats 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-20) in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon in Portage La Prarie, Manitoba.

Portage La Prarie born Zack Diboll led Winnipeg with 25 kills and 20 set assists. Brendan Black had 12 kills and four blocks in the victory.

Head coach Larry Mckay and his team will now prepare to open up their 2011-2012 Canada West regular season schedule on October 28 and 29 against the UBC Okanagan Heat in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Women's Soccer vs Canadian Mennonite University

WESMEN 7  Canadian Mennonite University 0

Kayla Jacobsen and Kayla White each scored two goals to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 7-0 victory over the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers Saturday afternoon at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.

The Wesmen with the victory clinch first place in the MCAC Women's Soccer standings and remain unbeaten in the regular season sporting a record of 5-0.

Serafina Trunzo, Jeanine Froese and Sheri Hince scored the remaining Wesmen goals.

Winnipeg (5-0) will close out their regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon hosting the Providence College Freeman. Match time at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Men's Soccer vs Canadian Mennonite University

WESMEN 9  Canadian Mennonite University 0

A total team effort carried the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 9-0 victory over the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers Saturday afternoon at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.

The victory improves Winnipeg's record to a perfect 7-0 in the MCAC Men's Soccer standings and clinches first place.

Eight different players scorerd for Winnipeg with Amos Ganyea leading the way with a pair. Richard Rundle, Kyle Fernandes, Kenny Sacramento, Andrew Okenwa, Gaetan Infantino, Clinton Osaje and Anthony Tummillo rounded out the Wesmen scoring.

Winnipeg (7-0) will host Providence College Sunday afternoon to close out their regular season schedule. Match time at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex is at 2:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball vs Manitoba "U of Manitoba Invitational"

WESMEN 59  Manitoba 43

Stephanie Kleysen scored a game high 24 points to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 59-43 victory over the Manitoba Bisons Saturday night at the U of Manitoba Invitational Tournament.

Kleysen a second year guard was 9-of-14 from the field, hauled in 16 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double. She also had four assists and two blocks.

First year forward Tia Coulter added nine points to go along with eight rebounds.

Melanie Edel and Mubo Ilelaboye each scored eight points for Manitoba.

The Bisons jumped out to an early 14-12 lead after the opening quarter but Winnipeg had a big second quarter outscoring the Bisons 19-7 to take a 31-21 lead into the halftime break.

In a tight defensive second half, the Wesmen outscored their opponents 28-22 to make the final tally 59-43.

Winnipeg (2-0) will face the Trinity Western University Spartans (2-0) Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. to close out the tournament.

Women's Basketball vs Lakehead "U of Manitoba Invitational"
WESMEN 70  Lakehead 59

The Winnipeg Wesmen opened up the University of Manitoba Invitational Tournament with a 70-59 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves Friday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

It was the Wesmen's fourth victory in the pre-season over the Thunderwolves. Winnipeg swept both games in Thunder Bay (Sep 30 and Oct 1) and most recently at the BOB FM Shootout last weekend at the Duckworth Centre.

Third year forward Alyssa Grant led Winnipeg with 16 points (including three-of-five) from three point territory. Stephanie Kleysen finished with a double-double 13 points, 12 rebounds.

Lakehead had a game-high 21 points from guard Carolyn Fragale and forward Lindsay Druery added a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards.


Winnipeg led at the halftime break 35-23and would not allow the Thunderwolves to get any closer than eight points in the second half.

The Wesmen will take on the Manitoba Bisons Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.


Men's Basketball vs Mount Royal University "CMU Invitational"

The Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the Mount Royal College Cougars 87-63 in non-conference play Friday  night at the Canadian Mennonite University Tournament.

Mark McNee led the Wesmen with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Winnipeg will next see action at the Pembina Chrysler Tournament that takes place next Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. Winnipeg plays Waterloo on Friday and Brandon on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
