Wrestling Program Announces First Recruits
Female Wrestlers Caroline Tess And Jessica Brenton Were Announced Today As The First Recruits To The University Of Winnipeg Wrestling Program..
University of Winnipeg Wesmen Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce the first recruits to the University of Winnipeg Wrestling program. Bruce announced today the commitments of Caroline Tess and Jessica Brenton.
Caroline Tess from West Kildonan Collegiate committed to the Wesmen back in April and will have the distinction of being the first recruit to the Wesmen wrestling program. "It's historic" states Coach Bruce, " I feel we couldn't have made a better choice in who we signed to be the first Wesmen wrestler, Caroline is a champion in the field of athletics’ as well as a champion in the arena of life, as a product of an exceptional program at West Kildonan, her development has been enhanced by tremendous support system on the home front from a very committed family.
She joins the Wesmen with three years experience at West Kildonan Collegiate and the Niverville Wranglers Wrestling Club. Tess is a two-time Provincial Champion and finished fifth at the 2011 National Championships earlier this year. She was the Most Valuable female wrestler in 2011 and is a two time winner of the Outstanding Contribution Athletics Award.
An accomplished student, Caroline was a four year honour student at West Kildonan and received an academic entrance scholarship to the University of Winnipeg.
“The values & dedication that Caroline brings to our program will be the cornerstone from which our Wesmen program will be built, she is an exceptional student athlete whose potential in the sport of wrestling is immeasurable. I feel we are very fortunate to have her be a part of the Wesmen family”, stated Bruce.
Jessica Brenton from Natrona County High School (Casper, Wyoming) joins the Wesmen with 13 years experience in the sport. She is a USA Body Bar National Champion & a 4-time Women's State Champion. Brenton was named the Outstanding Athlete in her freshmen year & the 2011 Governors Award as the top female wrestler in the state of Wyoming.
In addition to being a 4-time All American she is also the women's representative on the Wyoming Amateur Wrestling Association Board of Directors. Jessica is and will always be in the record books at her high school for being the first female on the varsity wrestling team.
“Jessica is a very exciting addition to the Wesmen family, she brings a wealth of experience and much needed depth to our new Women's program, she is a very talented young athlete with an exceptional work ethic. "I fully expect Jessica to be one of the leaders of our team both on and off the mat for a number of years to come, her arrival at the U of W has made an immediate & very positive impact within our program”, added coach Bruce.
A dedicated student athlete, Brenton graduated from high school with a grade point average of 3.26.
