Mark Ridd Commits to Men's Basketball Program

The University of Winnipeg and Head Coach Dave Crook are pleased to announce that Mark Ridd from Oak Park High School has committed to joining the Men’s Basketball Program for the upcoming 2009-2010 season in September.

“Mark is a great kid, big with strong ball skills. Once he develops and adjusts to the university game, I believe he can be a consistent performer for the Wesmen”, said Men’s Basketball Head Coach Dave Crook.

Ridd, a 6’6” forward averaged 10 points and nine rebounds per game in his final season for the Raiders. A hard working player, he led the Raiders in defensive rebounding and field goal percentage this past season. Mark was named a graduating all star and was named to the second all star team at the 2009 WIT Tournament. In 2008 Mark was a member of the Provincial 17U Team. He was a member of the Jr. Wesmen program for three years (2005-2007).

“Mark will bring to the Wesmen a good offensive skill set and outstanding rebounding. Mark is a great team person who has an outstanding upside”, added Oak Park Raiders Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach Randy Kusano.

The Ridd name is no stranger to basketball in the province. Mark’s grandfather Carl was regarded as one of the most outstanding basketball players in the province through the late 1940’s and 1950’s and his aunt Karen was a member of the Women’s Basketball Program for five years (1979-1984).
