Warburton,Coulter Receive MHSAA Awards

First Year WBB Team Members Alex Warburton And Tia Coulter Each Received Special Year End Awards Given Out By The Manitoba High Schoools Athletic Assoc..


The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association are pleased to announce that first year women’s basketball player Alex Warburton has been named the 2011 Jostens High School Female Athlete of the Year. Warburton was also named the “AAA” Female Athlete of the Year. She beat out three other sectional winners including fellow first year Wesmen Tia Coulter who was named the “AAAA” Girl’s Athlete of the Year.

Warburton of Sanford Collegiate was a graduating All-Star in both basketball and volleyball and was ranked as the number seven high school women’s basketball player in Manitoba. She is a recipient of the Carl Ridd Basketball Award and was named the top “AAA” Female Basketball Player in the province. Aside from basketball and volleyball, she participated in cross country, soccer and track. Alex is also the student representative on the MHSAA Board of Directors.






Coulter of Crocus Plains High School in Brandon was selected as the “AAAA” Female Basketball Player of the Year. She was named an all-star at the Provincial AAAA High School Basketball Championships this past March along with numerous tournament All-Star selections during the season. A multi sport talent, Tia was a graduating All-Star in both basketball and volleyball.

“We are very proud of the accomplishments of these two fine recruits. It will be a pleasure to have these exceptional student athletes join our program and university this September” said Wesmen Women’s Basketball head coach Tanya McKay.

Warburton and Coulter recently represented Manitoba last week at the All-Canada Classic Games in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre. The All-Canada Classic is the feature event of the three-day long showcase called Rumble-in-the-T-Dot. The event features the best high school basketball prospects in Canada.
