Current Men's Volleyball head coach Larry McKay and former players
Brenda Westwood, Bonnie Hailstone and Valerie DeRocco were inducted into the Manitoba Volleyball Association Hall of Fame at the annual induction ceremony held this past Sunday.
Larry McKay - Recently completed his 22nd season with the Winnipeg Wesmen Men's Volleyball Program. A graduate of John Taylor Collegiate McKay has coached teams to seven CIS and CIAU medals: Gold (1997-99, 2006-07), Silver (2001-02,2007-08) and Bronze 91992-93, 1996-97 and 1999-2000). A two-time CIS Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year (1993 and 2002). He was the head coach of Canada's National "B" Team last year and is currently the head coach of head coach of the men’s team which will represent Canada at the World University Games August 12-23 in Shenzen, China.
Brenda Westwood (Boroski) - Graduate of River East Collegiate, Westwood was a member of five CIAU Women's Volleyball Championship teams (1983-84 - 1987-88). She is one of two female players to be the first to win five consecutive CIAU titles. Westwood was named the CIAU Player of the Year in 1987-88 and was named CIAU Tournament MVP in 1985-86 and 1986-87. In 2001 she was inducted into the MVA Hall of Fame as a member of the 1987-88 University of Winnipeg Wesmen team that finished the season with a record of 58-0 (part of the 123 match winning streak).
Bonnie Hailstone (Gessner) - A graduate of Selkirk High School, Hailstone played three seasons at the University of Manitoba winning a pair of GPAC championships (1980-1981). After a succesfull four year tenure with the Prarie Blue Senior Women's Team, Hailstone joined the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in 1987, helping the Wesmen win the 1987 CIAU Women's Volleyball Championship.
Valerie DeRocco (Campbell) - A graduate from Murdoch McKay Collegiate. Valerie was a member of the University of Winnipeg Women's Volleyball program in 1974-75. After a succesfull stint with the Canadian National Team, she joined the University of Manitoba (1987-89).
