Sears Takes Part In Team Canada ID Camp

Fourth year middle Lauren Sears will be taking part in a three day Team Canada Women’s Volleyball ID Camp that gets underway today in Calgary, Alberta.

The objective of these camps is to identify athletes for future Team Canada programs including the 2011 Senior Women’s Team Selection Camp and the 2011 FISU Team Selection Camp that will be held from May 15-19 in Winnipeg. The 2011 FISU Team will represent Canada at the Summer Universiade from August 12-23 in Shenzen, China.

“I am really excited for this weekend’s ID Camp. I never anticipated that this opportunity would present itself, but now that it has I will definitely be making the most of it”, said Sears.

Sears was named to the Canada West Women’s Volleyball Second All-Star Team this past season. She finished the season in the top ten in several Canada West Conference statistical categories including, 3rd in hitting percentage at .300, 5th in points scored and 8th in blocking. She was named the lea marc Female Athlete of the Month for November and a Wesmen Player of the Week twice.

“We are very pleased for Lauren to have this opportunity. We feel she has improved her game to a level that allows her to go to the camp and compete with her peers”, said Wesmen head coach Diane Scott.
