(Original Release Date - March 16, 2011)

A third member of the 2010 Provincial Champion Dakota Lancers squad is joining the Wesmen. Head Coach Larry McKay is pleased to announce the commitment of Riley Delavau to joining the University of Winnipeg Men’s Volleyball program for the start of the 2011-2012 Canada West season this September.

He will join former Lancer teammates Josh McKay and Tanner McFeetors on the Wesmen this coming season.

Delavau at 6’0” played the outside hitter position for the Lancers but his natural position is libero. He was selected as a Graduating All-Star following the 2010 season. Riley was also the starting libero for the 17U Manitoba Provincial Volleyball Team that won the Western Elites Championship this past July.

A multi-sport talent, Delavau was the team captain of the Dakota Lancers Varsity Boys Basketball team this past season and was the starting point guard the past two seasons. In that time the Lancers have also been one of Manitoba’s top high school basketball teams.

He was coached the past two seasons at Dakota by Phil Hudson (volleyball) and Dean Favoni (basketball).

CIS volleyball is no stranger to the Delavau family. Riley’s older brother Derek played the 2009-2010 season with the University of Regina Men’s Volleyball Team.

"Riley is a quick, intelligent and skilled player.  He can jump well which isn't a necessity for a libero but does lend itself well to back court speed.  A top basketball player, Riley has finished in the high school provincial finals for volleyball in each of the past three seasons.  We're pleased he chose our university and program to continue his development in volleyball”, added Wesmen Head Coach Larry McKay.
