The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Larry McKay are pleased to announce the commitment of Toby Milne from Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler, Manitoba to the Men’s Volleyball program for the 2011-2012 Canada West season.

Milne a 6’5” middle blocker was selected as a MHSAA Graduating All-Star this past season. He is an excellent jumper who is capable of touching over 11 feet. Milne will suit up for the Winnipeg Strike club team to prepare for his first year of CIS level volleyball.

“In my opinion Toby is an athlete who can play university level volleyball in our league. He possesses the physical ability to get high over the net, he is quick as a blocker and as a spiker”, added Wesmen men’s Volleyball Head Coach Larry McKay.

A multi sport talent, Milne was a member of the Provincial Basketball program up until grade 11 and took part in track and field while at Garden Valley Collegiate.

“Toby is one of the most physically gifted athletes I have had the pleasure to work with. He is extremely coachable and his desire to train to get better is matched only by his desire to compete. He will be a great asset to the University of Winnipeg and Coach McKay’s program”, added Garden Valley Collegiate Boy’s Volleyball Head Coach Pat Alexander.

Toby is the second recent graduate of Coach Pat Alexander's to move into the Canada West university ranks. Steve Goertzen was a member of the University of Manitoba Bisons for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

"Toby follows in the large footsteps of Steve If he turns out as good, he'll be a top middle in Canada West”, added McKay.
