Red Deer Product Joins Women’s Volleyball Program


The University of Winnipeg and Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Diane Scott are pleased to announce that Red Deer, Alberta product Kaley Gilham has committed to joining the Wesmen for the 2009-2010 season this September.

“We are extremely pleased to have Kaley Gilham join our program. The opportunity to bring in a mature experienced student athlete from Red Deer College adds strength to our program right away. Kaley is highly motivated, a hard worker and a well rounded young woman. She brings leadership, strength, experience and depth”, said Wesmen Head Coach Diane Scott.

Gilham, a 6’1 middle joins the Wesmen after spending three seasons at Red Deer College. As a member of the Red Deer College Volleyball team, she played a vital role in leading the Queens to a gold medal at the 2009 ACAC (Alberta College Athletic Conference) Provincial Championships and a silver medal in 2008.  She previously played for the Red Deer Queens Extreme Club Team for three years before enrolling at Red Deer College.

A multi sport athlete, Kaley was a member of the Team Alberta Provincial Baseball team (1999-2006, 2008) and a member of Team Canada (2004-2005). In 2004 she was a member of the bronze winning team at the Women’s World Series in Japan and first place at the Women’s World Cup of Basebell held in Edmonton, Alberta. She has also excelled in basketball and track and field (discus, shot put and javelin).

An accomplished student, Kaley studied Kinesiology and Sports Studies at Red Deer College and received a duo diploma in Adapted Physical Education and Coaching and Sports Performance. She made the Dean’s List from 2006-2008 and the President’s List in 2007 and 2008.

“Kaley is one of the most dedicated student athletes I have coached. She takes tremendous pride in excelling at her sport, her academics and her physical fitness”, added Red Deer College Queens Volleyball Head Coach Talbot Walton.
