Women's Basketball at Lethbridge

WESMEN 91  Lethbridge 63    Game Statistics

The Winnipeg Wesmen wrapped up their 2010-2011 regular season schedule with a bang. The Wesmen scored a season high 91 points in a 91-63 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in the final game of the regular season Saturday evening in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The Wesmen finish the regular season with an impressive record of 20-4. Lethbridge ends the season with a record of 4-20.

Catie Gooch and Yael Kaplan led the Wesmen with 15 points each. Ashleigh Chichlowski added 13 points, with three-three pointers. Angella Griffith had a team high six rebounds. Kaplan led the Wesmen with four assists.

Becky Heninger led the Pronghorns with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Stephanie Inman added 12 points.

Winnipeg had an impressive game shooting finishing the contest with an impressive 56% shooting from the field and connected on nine-of-18 from three point range.

The Wesmen jumped out a lead of 23-13 after the first quarter and took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Pronghorns 27-7 to open up a 50-20 lead at the halftime break.

Winnipeg will now start to prepare for the Canada West quarter finals. The Wesmen will host the Fraser Valley Cascades in the best of three series at the Duckworth Centre next Friday (Game One), Saturday (Game Two) and if necessary Game Three on Sunday. Tip off for all games is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Men's Basketball at Lethbridge 
WESMEN 94 Lethbridge 86  Game Statistics

The Winnipeg Wesmen concluded their 2010-2011 season on a positive note. The Wesmen defeated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 94-86 Saturday night on the road in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The Wesmen with the victory end the season with a record of 6-18. Lethbridge sees their season end with a record of 7-17.

Fifth year guard Nick Lother, playing in his final game as a Wesmen led the team with a game high 33 points. Kelvin Smith added 26 points, including three-three pointers and eight rebounds. Benny Iko added 12 points.

Randy Davis led the Pronghorns with 24 points. Danhue Lawrence added 16 points and Derek Waldner and Niko Kovac each scored 10 points. Kovac grabbed a team high eight rebounds.

The game started out similar to last nights contest, with both teams dead even by a score of 23-23 after the opening quarter.

Winnipeg put on a offensive show in the second quarter outscoring Lethbridge 32-16 to a 55-39 lead into the halftime break.

Lethbridge came out of the halftime break on fire scoring ten straight points in a span of 2:00 to cut the Wesmen lead to 55-49. The Pronghorns kept the pressure on the Wesmen and trailed by a single point at 65-64 late in the quarter. A late 7-0 run by the Wesmen gave Winnipeg some breathing room leading 72-64 after three quarters.

Winnipeg maintained their lead in the fourth quarter to make the final score 94-86.

Women's Basketball at Lethbridge
WESMEN 78 Lethbridge 60  Game Statistics

A second half offensive explosion lifted the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 78-60 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday evening on the road in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Winnipeg scored 52 second half points after managing to score just 26 in the opening twenty minutes.

The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 19-4, and currently in second place in the Canada West Conference standings. Lethbridge falls to 4-19 on the season.

First year guard Stephanie Kleysen led the Wesmen with 18 points and nine rebounds. Amy Ogidan added 16 points and five assists, Catie Gooch finished with 10 points and three steals.

The Pronghorns were led by Hannah Blanchette with 20 points and Becky Heninger with 13 points and five assists.

Winnipeg took advantage of several Lethbridge turnovers in the opening quarter to lead 16-10. Winnipeg scored 11 points of Pronghorns turnovers in the opening 10 minutes.

In the second quarter a Catie Gooch three-pointer early on extended Winnipeg's lead to 21-13. The Pronghorns made a charge, scoring seven unanswered points in a span of 3:00 to cut the Wesmen lead to 21-20. Winnipeg carried a 26-22 lead into the halftime break.

Winnipeg came out of the halftime break on fire scoring six straight points in the opening 1:07 to extend their lead to double digits to 32-22. An explosive third quarter had both teams combining for 49 points, with Winnipeg outscoring Lethbridge 25-24 to hold a 51-46 lead after three quarters.

The Winnipeg offensive show continued in the fourth quarter with the Wesmen putting the game away outscoring Lethbridge 27-14 to make the final score 78-60.

The two teams will wrap up their respective regular season schedules Saturday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.(Winnipeg Time)

Men's Basketball at Lethbridge 
WESMEN 106  Lethbridge 111 (Overtime) Game Statistics

The Lethbridge Pronghorns needed an extra frame to pull out an exciting 111-106 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen Friday evening in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The overtime victory, overshadowed the performance by fifth year Wesmen guard Nick Lother.

Lother poured in 45 points to tie Erfan Nasajpour for the second most points scored by a Wesmen Men's Basketball player in a single game. Nasajpour scored 45 points in a game against Simon Fraser back in 2006. The record is held by Matej Marori who scored 46 in a game back in 1999.

Lother finished the game 10-of-27 from the field and 22-of-28 from the free throw line. The 22 successful free throws breaks Jeff Foreman's Wesmen record of 19 for the most successful free throws in a single game. Foreman set the record in 1991 vs Manitoba.

Lynden Drayton-Barrow added 23 points, including six three-pointers. Craig Sharpe added 11 points.

The Pronghorns were led by Danhue Lawrence with 32 points. Lawrence also added 10 rebounds and six assists. Randy Davis added 29 points. Derek Waldner had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The two teams were dead even in the first half with the score tied 27-27 after the opening quarter and 51-51 at halftime.

Winnipeg outscored Lethbridge 25-22 in the third quarter to carry a 76-73 lead into the fourth quarter. Lethbridge had the upper hand in the fourth quarter outscoring the Wesmen 26-23 to knot the score at 99-99 after regulation time.

The Pronghorns outscored the Wesmen 12-7 in the extra frame for the victory in the opening game of the weekend series.

Lethbridge improves their record to 7-16. Winnipeg falls to 5-18.
