Provincial Champion Commits To Men's Volleyball Program

A provincial volleyball champion and one with a familiar name is joining the Wesmen Men’s Volleyball team. Head Coach Larry McKay is pleased to announce the commitment of
Josh McKay to the men’s volleyball program for the start of the 2011-2012 Canada West season in September.

The McKay name is a familiar one, Josh’s father Larry is the current Winnipeg Men’s Volleyball head coach and his mother Tanya is the current head coach of the Wesmen Women’s Basketball team.

The 6’3” setter from Dakota Collegiate was a member of the Lancer team that won the 2010 MHSA AAAA Provincial Championship. McKay’s outstanding play throughout the tournament led to his selection as Most Valuable Player.

McKay led his team to the SCAC championship and first place finishes at several tournaments including the Seven Oaks, St.Vital and MBCI events as well as a finalist at the University of Winnipeg tournament. Josh was named MVP at both the St.Vital and MBCI tournaments.

He led the Dakota team in blocking and service aces and was ranked as the number two player in Manitoba in the Winnipeg Sun coach’s poll.

“Josh already possesses the ability to serve and block at the CIS level. He enjoys the cognitive challenge that is required to be an effective setter. That combined with his positive work ethic and dedication to personal excellence, he will undoubtedly one day be one of the top setters in the CIS”, added Phil Hudson, head coach Dakota Varsity Boys Volleyball team.

A multi sport talent McKay also excels in basketball as a member of the Dakota Varsity Boy’s Basketball team.
