A total team effort helped the Winnipeg Wesmen reach the Championship Final of the Wesmen Classic. The Wesmen defeated their cross town rivals the Manitoba Bisons 83-76 in a thrilling semi final Wednesday night at the Duckworth Centre. Six Wesmen players figured in double digits led by Brayden Duff’s 18. Lynden Drayton-Barrow added 14, including four-three pointers. Nolan Gooding, Benny Iko and Kelvin Smith each scored 12. Nick Lother added 11. Jonar Huertas led Manitoba with 17 points. Eric Garcia finished with 15, including three-three pointers. Winnipeg jumped out to a 20-15 lead after the opening quarter and outscored the Bisons 23-13 in the second quarter to open up a 43-28 lead at halftime. Winnipeg carried their double-digit lead throughout the third quarter leading 64-48 after thirty minutes. Manitoba made a charge in the fourth quarter and were within four points on a few occasions in the final frame but the Wesmen held off the charge to advance to the final. Winnipeg will face Saskatchewan in the Championship Final at 8:00 p.m.
