Wesmen Win Opening Game At Classic

Nolan Gooding Scored 26 Points To Help Lead The Wesmen To An Impressive 81-65 Victory Over McMaster In The Quarterfinals At The Wesmen Classic..




The Winnipeg Wesmen defeated the McMaster Marauders 81-65 in the quarterfinal round at the 44th Annual Wesmen Classic. Nolan Gooding was one of three Wesmen players in double-digits leading the team with a game high 26 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. Fifth year guard Nick Lother added 19 points, including three-three pointers. Benny Iko scored 12 and hauled down seven rebounds. Cameron Michaud led the Marauders with 16 points and nine rebounds. Taylor Black and Victor Raso added nine points. Winnipeg held a slim 14-13 lead after the opening quarter but tfound their game in the second outscoring McMaster 23-17 to open up a 37-30 lead at halftime. McMaster came within four points in the opening four minutes of the third quarter but the Wesmen outplayed the Marauders down the stretch and led by double digits soon after that. Winnipeg will face their cross town rivals the Manitoba Bisons Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in one semi final. The winner will advance to the Championship game on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.
