WESMEN 88   Lakeland College 82

The Winnipeg Wesmen opened up the Canadian Mennonite University Invitational Tournament with an 88-82 victory over Lakeland College Friday evening.

Guard Nolin Gooding led the Wesmen with 24 points and eight rebounds. Second year forward Brayden Duff added 18 points.

The Wesmen will wrap up the two-day tournament on Saturday against Briercrest. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

WESMEN 118   Briercrest College (Saskatchewan) 91

The Wesmen finished with the Canadian Mennonite University Invitational Tournament with a perfect 2-0 record. Winnipeg defeated Briercrest College 118-91 Saturday night.

Winnipeg won their opening game on Friday night 88-82 against Lakeland College.

Five players finished in double figures for the Wesmen. First year forward Kelvin Smith led the way with 30 points. Forward Benny Iko finished with 20 points.

The Wesmen will now prepare for their 2010-2011 Canada West regular season opening game on Friday night (Oct 22) against their cross town rivals the Manitoba Bisons. Game time at the University of Manitoba is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
