Men's Volleyball vs York University 

WESMEN def York 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19)

The Winnipeg Wesmen continued their strong play as of late defeating the York University Lions 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19) in pre-season action Tuesday night at the Duckworth Centre.

The Wesmen are coming off and an impressive showing at the University of Regina Tournament (4-1 record) held this past weekend in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Matt Schriemer led the Wesmen with 11 kills on the evening. Matt Stubler and Brendan Black each finished with seven. First year outside Ty Loewen added six kills. Stubler led the Wesmen with 12 digs.

Ray Szeto, Tom Podstawka and Karim Khalil each had eight kills to lead York. Podstawka led the team with 10 digs.

The Wesmen held the lead at rthe first break of the opening set leading 8-6 and maintained their slim lead to the second timeout 16-14. Winnipeg closed ou the first set in impressive fashion running off nine of the last 13 points to win the opening set 25-18.

In the second set Winnipeg continued their strong play early on building a quick 8-1 lead at the first timeout. York rebounded cutting the Wesmen lead to 16-10 at the second timeout. The Lions rallied off four straight points to cut into the Wesmen lead even further (16-14). The teams battled to 20-20 when York outscored the Wesmen 5-2 to win the second set 25-22.

Winnipeg regained their composure and led at both timeouts of the third set by scores of 8-5 and 16-14. Strong serving from setter Dominique Pereira and timely kills by Schriemer down the stretch enabled Winnipeg to win the set 25-23.

The Wesmen closed the match winning the fourth set 25-19.
