WESMEN def Calgary 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12) (Preliminary Round)

The Winnipeg Wesmen opened up the 2010 University of Regina Invitational on a winning note. The Wesmen defeated the University of Calgary Dinos 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12) Friday afternoon in Regina, Saskatchewan.

"We played a very competitive match, fairly consistent throughout. We did not let Calgary's defense wear us down, we stayed composed and kept battling", said Wesmen Head Coach Diane Scott.

Winnipeg (1-0) will take on the University of Sakatchewan Huskies in the late match Friday night.


WESMEN def Saskatchewan 3-1 (25-15, 15-25, 25-18, 25-18)  (Preliminary Round)

The Women's Volleyball team defeated the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 3-1 (25-15, 15-25, 25-18, 25-18) to finish the opening day of the University of Regina Invitational Tournament with a perfect 2-0 record.

The Wesmen defeated the University of Calgary Dinos in a five set match earlier in the day.

"We had two back-to-back big time matches for our young team. After a long bus ride and a five set match with Calgary, to finish off the day with two wins was great. A big step for our young team", added Head Coach Diane Scott.

Winnipeg (2-0) will complete their preliminary round schedule Saturday afternnon against the host University of Regina Cougars. The semi final round will take place on Saturday night.

Regina def WESMEN 3-1 (15-25, 18-25, 25-20, 18-25) (Preliminary Round)

The Winnipeg Wesmen dropped a 3-1 (15-25, 18-25, 25-20, 18-25) decision to the host Regina Cougars in the final match of the preliminary round at the University of Regina Invitational Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Winnipeg (2-1) finishes the round robin in first place in their pool and will take on the Brandon University Bobcats in the semi-finals Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. The winner will will advance to the gold medal match on Sunday afternoon.


Alberta def WESMEN 3-2 (25-7, 17-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-11) (Semi-Final Round)

The University of Alberta Pandas defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-2 (25-7, 17-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-11) in the semi final match at the University of Regina Invitational Tournament Saturday night in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Winnipeg will now face the Saskatchewan Huskies in the bronze medal match Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

Saskatchewan def WESMEN 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) (Bronze Medal)

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen in three straight sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) in the bronze medal match at the University of Regina Invitational Tournament Sunday afternoon in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Wesmen finish the tournament with an overall record of 2-3.

"Overall it was a great weekend for our young team, it was a great effort by the entire team. There is some work to do to prepare for the regular season, but this weekend was a great starting point", said Wesmen Head Coach Diane Scott.
