The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits defeated the hometown Winnipeg Wesmen 94-52 Thursday night at the Duckworth Centre in the second and final game of the early pre-season series between the two teams.The Jackrabbits defeated the Wesmen 105-53 in Monday nights opening game of the series.
Sophmore guard Nate Wolters led South Dakota State with a game high 16 points and five assists. Freshman forward Jordan Dykstra added 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Senior guard Dale Moss finished with 12.
Fifth year guard Nick Lother led the Wesmen with 15 points, including a pair of three pointers and two assists. Fourth year guard Nolan Gooding and third year forward Benny Iko each scored nine. Iko hauled in a game high seven rebounds.
The contest started out as a close affair with both teams making tough defensive stands in the opening moments of the first quarter. But things changed soon after with South Dakota State reeling off nine straight points to take a 9-1 lead and went on to lead 23-12 after the opening frame.
The Jackrabbits took control of the game in the second quarter outscoring the Wesmen 23-9 to take a 46-21 lead into the halftime break.
South Dakota state kept the pressure on the Wesmen in the second half outscoring the home team 48-31 to make the final score 94-52.
