The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men’s basketball team opened up their 2010-2011 pre-season schedule with a 105-53 defeat against the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits Monday night at the Duckworth Centre.

Four South Dakota State players scored in double-digits led by senior guard Clint Sargent's game high 24 points. Aireus Stephenson added 18 points, followed by Nate Wolters with 16 and Chad White finished with 11 points.

Kenny Perry led the Wesmen with 12 points, including a pair of three pointers. Benny Iko added nine points, followed by Kelvin Smith with eight.

The Jackrabbits opened the game on a 18-0 run early in the first quarter and held a 29-10 advantage after the opening frame. Winnipeg played a much better second quarter but went into the halftime break trailing 52-31.

South Dakota put the game out of reach in the second half outscoring the Wesmen 53-22 to make the final score 105-53.

The Wesmen and South Dakota State will face each other on Thursday night at the Duckworth Centre. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. The Jackrabbits will face the Manitoba Bisons for two games on Tuesday and Friday at the University of Manitoba.
