Men's Volleyball Announce 2010-2011 Recruiting Class
MVB Head Coach Larry McKay Announced The Commitment Of Eight Players To His Roster For The 2010-2011 Season..
The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and Men’s Volleyball Head Coach Larry McKay is pleased to announce the commitment of the following players to joining the Men’s Volleyball program this September for the 2010-2011 season.Tom Douglas-Powell, 6’2 outside from Brisbane, Australia, Member of the Australian Youth National and Junior National Teams, an academic scholarship recipient this past year.

Kevin Bommersbach, 6’0 outside Miles Mac Collegiate, Winnipeg Strike Provincial and National Champion (2010), National All-Star, coaches Tim Au (Miles Mac, Winman), Al Loewen (Winman, Strike)
Ty Loewen, 6’4 outside, River East Collegiate, Winnipeg Strike Provincial and National Champion (2010), National All-Star 2009, coaches Al Loewen (River East, Winman, Strike), Tim Au (Winman)

Stefan Dirks, 6’0 outside, Steinbach Regional, Manitoba Bison Provincial Runner Up 2010, Provincial All-Star, coaches Henry Kasdorf (Steinbach), Jim Slater (Bisons)

Brendan Black, 6’5 middle, JH Bruns Collegiate, Winnipeg Strike Provincial and National Champion (2010), National All-Star, coaches Kris Funk (JH Bruns), Tim Au (Miles Mac, Winman), Al Loewen (Winman, Strike)
“Aside from Douglas-Powell, the remaining players are products of our own local volleyball system. All played high school and club volleyball in Manitoba. Our university program is strong because of that”, said Larry McKay, Head Coach, University of Winnipeg Men’s Volleyball program.
Note: As previously announced, Head Coach Larry McKay will be serving as an assistant coach with Canada’s National Men’s Volleyball Team in September at the World Championships in Italy. In McKays absence Kris Funk, Phil Hudson and Rob Sveinson will be coaching the Wesmen Men’s Volleyball program in September and early October.
Kris Funk has been a Wesmen coach for the last six years. He has garnered national championships with Winnipeg Strike at the midget, 18U and Junior levels. He has also won a CIS National Championship with the Wesmen in 2007.
Phil Hudson coached with the Wesmen in 2007 when they won the CIS National Championship. He coached the University of Manitoba Bison Men’s team in 2008. He has coached Team Manitoba Men at the Canada Games three times and his teams have won three medals, including gold in 2005. The program at Dakota Collegiate under Phil's guidance has been tremendously successful for the last two decades.
Rob Sveinson has assisted with the Wesmen the last two years. A teacher at the University of Winnipeg Collegiate, Rob has won National Championships as a player and as a coach.
