UWinnipeg Congratulates Returning AFN National Chief

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg extends congratulations to Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, returning National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN).
“The
University of Winnipeg looks forward to our continued work on education with National
Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo as we continue to forge strong ties with First
Nation peoples,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy,
UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor. “UWinnipeg and the AFN have a
strong partnership, as we are committed to providing a framework that brings Indigenous
perspectives to the University’s governance, programs, and services. Combined
with scholarships and bursaries, this partnership helps to increase access for
Indigenous students who wish to pursue their dreams via post-secondary
education.”
The
University of Winnipeg and the AFN have worked together on a number of important
initiatives on UWinnipeg’s campus, including: an AFN Youth Gathering, the inaugural KA
NA TA Conversations - Re-Thinking Canada Embracing An Indigenous Worldview,
and a national Virtual Summit On First Nation Post-Secondary Education, as well as an AFN
Roundtable on personal credits for residential school survivors and their
families and communities.
The
AFN consists of 633 First Nation communities in Canada that are recognized as
members of the Assembly of First Nations. The Assembly of First Nations is a
national organization representing First Nation citizens in Canada.
