Spyware Removal

Ridding systems of Spyware and other malware may take more than one application. Trend OfficeScan provides protection against some Spyware and Adware, but this should not be considered inclusive. Other applications specifically designed to scan for malware can and should be used. One such product that is free of charge and very effective is Spybot S&D, available for download here.

Spybot S&D has been set up on the main authentication server (AS) for computers connected to the campus Novell network. It is available for use by employees with a valid account and can be run directly from the server. Spyware pattern updates are applied regularly. You must have Administrative rights to your system for SpyBot to function.

Perform an Automated Scan Using SpyBot

• Start Windows Explorer and select Drive S:

• Go to the UTILITIES\SPYBOT directory

• Double-click on the file named SPYBOT-RUN.BAT

Spybot will launch, scan the system and attempt to clean any malware found. You may receive a confirmation message. Select "Don't show this message again" and then press OK.















Scanning may take some time to complete and is dependent on the speed of the computer and the amount of Spyware it finds. It may also pause for brief periods as it is scanning. Once done it will post the number of problems it fixed:

Perform a Manual Scan Using SpyBot

• Start Windows Explorer and select Drive S:

• Go to the UTILITIES\SPYBOT directory

• Double-click on the file named SPYBOTSD.EXE

• Select the Check for Problems button

Spybot will scan your system and show you a list of what was found. You can then select the Fix Selected Problems button to clean the system.
