Q: Can I access Archives that I have burnt to CD directly from the CD
A: No. Unfortunately, the read only nature of CDs prevents the GroupWise client from interacting with the files properly. The archive will have to be copied to a local hard drive, and then the read only setting must be removed on all files and folders within the Archive.
Q: Archiving is too complicated. Can I Archive (save) my email by dragging files to my Desktop or local drives?
A: Not really. Doing so creates a shortcut to the message in GroupWise that can only be read using the GroupWise client. Deleting the message within GroupWise, will cause the shortcut to become invalid, and copying the shortcut to an external location will render it useless
Q: Im leaving the UofW, and need to be able to take my email with me, in a format that I can read without GroupWise. What can I do?
A: Do not use an Archive for this function! Notify the help desk and a GroupWise mail viewer plus your mailbox will be stored on CD. The mail viewer is a self contained software that can be used in any Windows workstation.
