Campus Sustainability Representatives

Sustainability Representatives are people who volunteer from the various academic and operational departments of the University to “champion” the goal of campus sustainability and work among their colleagues to promote it. This is being achieved through a series of “campaigns” focusing on energy conservation, waste reduction, green procurement and sustainable transportation. Each campaign engages champions in several “action” projects that involve concrete interventions aimed at achieving campaign goals through changes to day-to-day behavior of students, faculty and support staff, and other operations of the University.
Sustainability Representatives:
- Act as “educator / advocates” to promote more sustainable practices through education, motivation and information support;
- Act as contact people for suggestions and concerns from the grassroots and these with the broader campus community through the Campus Sustainability Office;
- Assist their departments in developing procedures to achieve sustainability objectives as identified in the Sustainability Policy;
- Prepare short reports on departmental initiatives, ideas, and progress on sustainability goals.
There are currently 38 faculty and support staff serving as Sustainability Representatives with plans in place to expand this number to around 50 so that all university departments are represented. It is also planned to recruit two or three Student Sustainability Representatives to pair up with each staff / faculty representative to further multiply energies around promotion of campus sustainability.
