Title: Ethics, Tactics and Tensions in Human Rights Journalism
Description:
In age of "truthiness" and "fuzzy facts" how does
one maintain journalistic rigour and integrity while also recognizing
the power, potential and problems of the 4th estate? What is the line
between journalism that recognizes, and harnesses, narrative power,
with propaganda? How can one challenge, and offer alternatives to, the
often colonial practice of global media? Discussing her current work
as well as reflecting on 15 years of scholarly and practical
experience, Dr. Plaut explores the lessons learned in content, funding
and practice among Indigenous journalism (specifically Saami),
philantho-journalism and her own push for human rights journalism.
