Title:	Artist Talk - Frank Shebageget
Description:	Gallery 1C03 is pleased to present an artist talk by Ottawa-based Anishinabe artist Frank Shebageget in conjunction with his self-titled exhibition, which includes new sculptural work presented in Gallery 1C03 and at the University's Anthropology Museum. Shebageget graduated with his A.O.C.A. from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1996, and received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria in 2000. As an installation artist, his work reflects his continued interest in the geography of the Canadian Shield and the aesthetic qualities of everyday materials. Through the use of repetition, he explores the tense relationships between production, consumption, and the economics of beauty, often by playing with the incongruity of mass production versus the handcrafted object. The recipient of numerous awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, Shebageget has been included in solo and group exhibitions across Canada and in the United States for more than a decade.
