External Awards
The following is a list of awards offered by private companies and organizations that may be of interest to current University of Winnipeg undergraduate and graduate students. Awards with upcoming deadlines will be noted; students are encouraged however, to search for scholarship opportunities year-round.
Bee Maid Fiftieth Anniversary Scholarship
Two separate scholarships will be awarded, each valued at $1,000.
will recognize and encourage children and grandchildren of members and
staff of BeeMaid Honey as they enter post-secondary study.
Bernard J. Persiko Merit Scholarship
The Bernard J. Persiko Merit Scholarship is an annual scholarship intended for Canadian students of all academic programs who wish to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for a semester or a year. The financial support is based on the length of each program at the Hebrew University and is provided by funds raised during the annual March Madness online college basketball tournament administered by the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University.
Building Foundations Bursaries
This bursary program is open to post-secondary students throughout the Province of Manitoba who attend college or university and either live in Manitoba Housing or in subsidized housing associated with Manitoba Housing. Applications are evaluated based on a combination of academic excellence and volunteer work in the community.
Business Council of Manitoba Aboriginal Education Awards
If you are of Aboriginal ancestry, you are eligible to apply for a Business Council of Manitoba Education Award if you meet the following criteria: a citizen of Canada and permanent resident of Manitoba, having resided in Manitoba for the last 12 months, plan to attend a Manitoba Public Post-secondary Institution in any discipline (trades, business, general studies, science, etc) in the 2012-2013 academic year, plan to maintain full time status (at least a 60% course load) - you are in need of financial assistance.
The Dick Martin Scholarship Award. Any student enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in an occupational health and safety (OHS) related course or program at an accredited Canadian college or university leading to a certificate, diploma or degree in OHS. Programs include mine safety, occupational or industrial health and safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or other related safety program.
Canadian Dementia Resource and Knowledge Exchange
In partnership with the Alzheimer Knowledge Exchange is introducing a student bursary for undergraduate students currently enrolled in a gerontology-related field of study.
Canadian Japanese-Mennonite Scholarship
A $2,000. scholarship will be awarded to a student who is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant studying at the graduate level at a Canadian university engaged in research that will assist the protection of human rights in Canada.
Canadian Youth Environmental Leadership Scholarship
The scholarship, worth $5000, will contribute to the advancement of new ideas and new ways of thinking when it comes to protecting the environment by supporting students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and the environment. It will be awarded to two Canadian students who have completed at least two years of an undergraduate program, who best combine academic achievement and public environmental service. In order to apply, students will need to be nominated by their dean, another faculty member, or a community leader. The Awards Program, "Advancing a National
Dialogue," seeks out fresh ideas from graduate students for policies or
models that will enhance Canada's competitiveness in the emerging agriculture
and agri-food world. This initiative has been made possible through the support
of Farm Credit Canada (FCC). These awards are available to candidates who are
studying at the graduate level.

Council of the Federation Literacy Award
Premier Greg Selinger is inviting Manitobans to nominate deserving adult learners for the 2013 Council of the Federation Literacy Award recognizing outstanding achievement in adult literacy. Deadline: May 31, 2013.
CRI Canada 2013 Learning Grant
Four learning grants of $1,000. each to eligible students for full-time study who is a member of Manitoba Credit Union.
CWRA Scholarships in Water Resources
The Canadian Water Resources Association annually offers
five scholarships. These scholarships are available to graduate students whose
programs of study focus upon applied, natural, or social science aspects of
water resources. All applicants will receive a one-year membership in the
Canadian Water Resources Association.
The scholarships range from $250-$400 and are awarded based on a students marks, experience, volunteer/group participation, and Equals6 site participation. The scholarship are funded by the various companies registered with Equals6, and from Equals6 itself. The company is fairly new (was launched last year) and as it grows, the number of companies registered grows too, leading to more scholarships available for students.
Federation of Canadian Municipalities
Will award a $2,000 scholarship which will be presented in the winner's municipality.
Fulbright Canada, a member of the prestigious worldwide Fulbright
family, offers a wide range of programs that support Canadian students
and scholars who wish to study, conduct research, or lecture in the
United States.
GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program
The GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program in Canada is a unique program that provides financial support and skills development opportunities for accomplished first-year undergraduate students from recognized institutions who are pursuing degrees in the fields of engineering or business/management and are Canadian resident Aboriginal individuals who are either First Nation status or non-status, Métis or Inuit.
Jon Sigurdsson Chapter IODE Scholarships
IODE is a Canadian womens charitable organization whose
mission is to improve the quality of life for children, youth and those in
need, through educational, social services and citizenship
programs.
Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg: Manitoba Citizens' Bursary Fund for Aboriginal Peoples
This annual award is open to aboriginal students from The University of Winnipeg, The University of Manitoba and Brandon University. You must be a student with Aboriginal ancestry (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit) and demonstrate financial need. Students must maintain satisfactory grades to retain their eligibility. Also points will be given for extra-curricular/volunteer activities.
Everest Nutrition's Krill Oil will be giving $1,000 to two students, pursuing further education beyond a high school level, as part of the 'Krill Oil - Educate Your Heart' program. More info is available here.
L'Oréal Canada For Women in Science Research Excellence Fellowships
With the Support of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO,
L'Oréal Canada will give two (2) fellowships of $20,000 CAD each to female
post-doctoral researchers in the field of Life Sciences. The fellowships
offered alternate each year between the fields of Life Sciences and
Engineering/Pure and Applied Sciences. This fellowship is a part of the For
Women in Science Program which recognizes the importance of the contributions
of women in the progress of science. Applications will be reviewed by a
panel of scientists, including representatives from the Canadian Commission for
UNESCO and L'Oréal Canada. Candidates must conduct their research at a Canadian
host institution or organization.
MADD Canada Victim Bursary Fund
The MADD Canada Victim Bursary Fund is for Canadian students who have had a parent, legal guardian or sibling killed in an impaired-driving crash and who are pursuing any full time post-secondary educational program that is approved by a provincial Ministry of Education.
Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children
Two academic scholarships ($750 each) and two transition scholarships ($750 each). The two transition scholarships will apply to Students with Disabilities.
Manitoba Legislative Internship Program
Open to 6 Manitoba students who have graduated by September, 2013 from a degree program in any discipline at a Manitoba university and to permanent Manitoba residents studying outside the province to experience the legislative process within the Manitoba Legislature. The Manitoba Network Environment for Aboriginal Health
Research (NEAHR) Program seeks to expand the pool of indigenous health
researchers and contribute to the development of a sustainable and
collaborative research environment for First Nations, Metis and Inuit
communities in Manitoba.
Manitoba Theatre Centre
The Manitoba Theatre Centre offers scholarships to students pursuing diplomas and degrees in Theatre. Information and a scholarship application is available here.
Mattinson Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities
Out on Bay Street
A national non-profit organization that strives to facilitate the professional development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and allied (LGBTQA) students as they transition from school to the workplace. This new scholarship program will provide 2 post-secondary student recipients with a financial award to help defray the costs of higher education. Applications must be submitted via the Out On Bay Street Student Portal at http://portal.outonbayst.org/.
Prairie Water News Graduate Scholarship
A one-time scholarship is offered to support a graduate student with a study and research program contributing to collaborative approaches to managing the challenges associated with rural water sources, water supplies, water quality and human health, or protection of water. Open to students entering or continuing studies in a Masters (up to 24 months) or Doctoral (up to 36 months) program whose research contributes to discovering and promoting collaborative approaches to water supply management, and water quality protection and enhancement. The student must be registered full-time in a graduate studies program at an institution in Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba. For more information contact hudym@src.sk.ca
Rabin Scholarship Fund for the Advancement of Peace and Tolerance
The Rabin Scholarship Fund for the Advancement of Peace
and Tolerance was created to enable three scholars - Canadian, Jewish Israeli
and Arab Israeli - to study or advance their research. The financial support is
tenable for a one year period at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The
program is open to doctoral students at accredited universities, or recent PhDs
within 5 years of receiving the degree, focusing on areas relating to the
advancement of peace and tolerance.
RBC Aboriginal Student Awards Program
Selected students are awarded up to $4,000 each academic
year for two to four years to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies and
living expenses. For students majoring in disciplines related to the financial
services industry, or students majoring in disciplines unrelated to the

RBC Students Leading Change Scholarship for Undergraduates

The
Rhodes Scholarship is a postgraduate award supporting exceptional students at
the University of Oxford in England. It is the oldest and perhaps the most
prestigious international scholarship program in the world. The
scholarship includes tuition and fees, and a stipend covering living expenses
for two years of study at the University of Oxford. Each year Canada sends
seven student leaders to England. Students
must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, born between October 2, 1989
and October 1, 1995, and have received an undergraduate degree before taking up
the scholarship in 2014. Note: Applicants are nominated by
the President of each school. The internal deadline to apply is September 13, 2013. Please send completed applications to Awards and Financial Aid, 1C22 (Centennial Hall).
A $1,500 scholarship is given to a full-time post secondary student who is enrolled in an undergraduate advertising or marketing program at a Canadian university or college.
A $1000. bursary is available to students entering first or second year who are majoring in business administration, marketing or related business programs.
Seven Oaks General Hospital Bursary
Seven Oaks General Hospital recognizes the importance of providing opportunities to staff, volunteers, and students in support of their ongoing educational endeavours.
Sharda University Scholarships
Offers twenty (20) scholarships to foreign students in order to attend its 2 week Cultural Experience program in India.
Steps in the Right Direction Award
Career Trek Inc. and our partner The Winnipeg Foundation are delighted to announce a new award opportunity. The Career Trek Steps in the Right Direction Award is for graduating grade 12 students and previous graduates who participated in Career Trek programming and who meet the specific criteria of the award. Deadline: May 31, 2013.
Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program
In recognition of having demonstrated the highest ideals and
qualities of citizenship and humanitarian service while in pursuit of
excellence in academic, amateur sport, fitness, health and voluntary community
service. In so doing has reflected those ideals of courage, humanitarianism,
service and compassion, which Terry Fox embodied. Deadline: February 1 of each year.
The Aboriginal Circle of Educators
Supplies a variety of bursaries and scholarships for Aboriginal students.
Established by Friends of Canadian Broadcasting in 2002, the
Dalton Camp Award, honours the memory of the late Dalton Camp, a distinguished
commentator on Canadian public affairs. The Award will go to the winner
of an essay competition on the link between democracy and the media in
Canada. Up to four finalists will also be recognized.
The Maritime Dairy Industry Scholarship
Various partners of the Maritime dairy industry have established the
Maritime Dairy Industry Scholarship in order to support the academic
efforts of students committed to securing the future of a successful
Canadian dairy industry. .
The Mary Guilbault Métis Bursary
The Mary
Guilbault Métis Bursary is an award available to Manitoba Métis students who
excel in their academics and community. Any Métis student enrolled in their
second year or more at a post-secondary institution in Manitoba may
apply. All applicants must have resided in Manitoba for at least 12
months. This bursary was named in
honour of Mrs. Mary Guilbault, a respected Elder in the Métis
community and a pivotal player in the creation of the Manitoba Métis
Federation.
The Mona Gray Creative Arts Scholarship
Open to Manitobans of all backgrounds, the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba is proud to award annually to a Bachelor's Degree graduate of a Manitoba university, who is pursuing graduate studies within or outside of Manitoba in one of the following areas: Creative Writing; Film; Fine Arts; Music; Theatre;Dance; or Photography. The scholarship is based on artistic achievement, financial need, community/volunteer involvement and academic achievement.
The National Union's Scholarship Program
Four awards of $1,500 given each year to children of NUPGE members.Each year, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers four scholarships that reflect its pursuit of equal opportunity for all workers. They are open to the children of the National Unions 340,000 members who are starting a post-secondary education.
The Percy Lanham bursary is a bursary to assist with tuition, book and supply cost and if possible to living expenses to students attended post-secondary schooling. Bursaries shall be available to students who have completed more than one year of study. Deadline: July 15, 2013.
The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre
Information on Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre's scholarships and apprenticeships.
Will sponsor one student per year, up to a maximum of four
students at any time, through the four years of their undergraduate studies,
who are enrolled full-time in an eligible, recognized science program.
The selected student(s) will receive $500.00 each towards their tuition each year of the program up to a maximum of four consecutive years.
This award recognizes a woman's outstanding achievements in
the expression, performance, development, preservation or patronage of the
visual, literary, performing or creative arts.
Women's Opportunity Awards - Soroptimist International of Winnipeg
If you are a female head of a household with one or more dependents , have financial need & attending an undergraduate degree program, you are eligible to apply.
