For a productive and meaningful university experience, it is important to get the right information at the start and to keep asking questions throughout your time at university. Advising is provided for all Aboriginal (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) students. Andrea McCluskey is an Aboriginal Academic Advisor at The University of Winnipeg. A member of the Manitoba Metis Federation, she has worked as a consultant in Aboriginal communities across Manitoba. Andrea has also coordinated the projects Second Chance (to support Aboriginal inmates) and Lost Prizes (to reclaim at-risk, high-school drop-outs), and produced several chapters and articles on these programs.

Tanis Kolisnyk graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a BA in Music in 2000 and is a graduate of the UW DCE program in 2008 with her Certificate of Management Studies (CMS). As the U of W Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Tanis works to expand partnerships with Aboriginal communities, organizations and high schools in the province. She provides information to students interested in post-secondary education and encourages aboriginal students to come and take advantage of the opportunities offered at the University of Winnipeg. Tanis is an active member of the Manitoba Metis Federation and her experience in Awards & Financial Aid at the University of Winnipeg, makes her a good resource for Aboriginal students with funding questions and concerns.

We are proud to have the wisdom and knowledge of our council of Elders. In addition to the teachings and cultural activities held within the ASSC, our Elders provide guest lectures and support and guidance for all students, faculty and staff. Our Elders are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 - 4:30.

As Aboriginal Student Support Officer, Jeff facilitates the centre's cultural related programs and student activities as well as assisting the Elder in Residence, overseeing the ASSC student ambassadors, and providing transitional support for Aboriginal students on campus. Jeff also establishes working relationships with prospective employers to provide informational sessions within the centre.

Randy comes to the ASSC with 15 years of experience in the UW Admissions office. As TYP Coordinator, he facilitates the application for admission process, provides assistance with timetabling and course selection, offers study skill and essay writing assistance, and coordinates the Mentor program and Tutorial services throughout the year.
