“Being part of the largest-ever study on mental health and homelessness is rewarding
when you watch more than 1,000 Canadians become housed and supported through it,”
says Jino Distasio, Director, Institute of Urban Studies. “The At Home/Chez Soi project
continues to change lives while demonstrating the effectiveness of using a Housing First
approach.” UWinnipeg’s Institute of Urban Studies continues to undertake applied and
practical projects that foster community awareness while supporting policy changes that
makes our cities more livable. Over the past year, IUS developed a sustainability planning
framework for Churchill and is now preparing to work within Winnipeg’s inner-city to
better understand the housing circumstances among our diverse African immigrant and
refugee populations.
