** PLEASE NOTE:
All faculty members and graduate students must use the WebGrants on-line application forms (WebGrants Forms and Access).  If you have not yet been set up as a WebGrants user, please contact the Research Office for log-in information at 204.786.9058 or email:  h.mowat@uwinnipeg.ca.

** IMPORTANT NOTE:  On November 26, 2012, in accordance with the Tri-council Policy Statement:  Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2), The University of Winnipeg established the University Human Research Ethics Board (UHREB) under the governance of the Board of Regents.  This board has assumed the roles and responsibilities formerly undertaken by the Senate Committee on Ethics in Human Research and Scholarship (SCEHRS).  There will be no interruption to the provision of ethics review, either initially or throughout the course of individual research projects involving human participants.

Please refer to this webpage for updates to forms, policies and procedures.

Panel on Research Ethics Launches the TCPS 2 Tutorial

In May, 2011, the Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics announced the launch of a new, online tutorial, TCPS 2: Course on Research Ethics (CORE). CORE was designed to support the Canadian research community’s implementation of the 2nd edition of the Tri-council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2) released in December, 2010.

All faculty involved in human participatory research, and particularly those who serve on departmental ethics committees, are strongly encouraged to complete the new online tutorial. The University Human Research Ethics Board will provide further outreach activities in order to familiarize the UW research community with new policies and guidelines found in the TCPS 2.

Submission Deadlines and Meeting Dates 2012-2013

The deadline for Full Review submissions to be considered at each meeting of the UHREB is normally set for two weeks (10 working days) in advance of the meeting date. This allows sufficient time for distribution of copies and for committee members to read proposals. Submissions received after a deadline, but before the associated meeting, will not be reviewed until the subsequent meeting. To avoid delays, please ensure that your submission is complete, all ethical issues have been addressed fully, and your Departmental Ethics Committee has had sufficient time to complete its review so that you can submit your application to the Research Office by the deadline.

The complete submission, must reach the Research Office by 4:00 p.m. on the deadline date in order to be reviewed at the scheduled meeting. Delegated (formerly “Expedited”) minimal-risk reviews may be submitted anytime.
