Lecture March 12
Carol Shields Writer-in-Residence to speak in Convocation Hall

WINNIPEG, MB –Truth, identity and history are three issues John Weier will explore in his presentation for the 2008 Carol Shields Writer-in-Residence Distinguished Lecture Series, scheduled for March 12 at 7:00 pm in Convocation Hall, which is located on the 2ndFloor of Wesley Hall, 515 Portage Ave.
Weier – this year’s Carol
Shields Writer-in-Residence – will lecture on the place of stories in
culture and society. An entertaining speaker, Weier’s talk on the nature and
function of narrative – delivered in the mode of the raconteur – will surely
engage all those who attend. A reception follows Weier’s presentation in
Convocation Hall.
Winnipeg-born, Weier is an accomplished writer. He is Past
President of the League of Canadian Poets and Past
Creator Co-Chair of the Access Copyright
Board of Directors. The author of 11 books, Weier has written poetry,
fiction, non-fiction and children’s works. His 2004 publication Under the Sacred Tree was shortlisted
for the McNally Robinson Book of the Year
Award.
