Darryl R. Toews is volunteer coordinator of the Manitoba Campaign to Ban Landmines (MBCBL) and a social studies teacher at Morden Collegiate in Morden, MB.

The MBCBL, a registered non-profit organization, was created in 2002. Its goals are to raise awareness in Manitoba of the landmine issue and to encourage Manitobans, especially youth, to take local action to help end the global landmine problem.

In addition to his teaching degree, Darryl holds a BA and MA in modern developing world history. His exposure to international issues began as a teenager when he lived in Kenya for two years (1982-1984) and Pakistan for one year (1985-1986) where his father was on contracts with CIDA.

From 1999-2000, he was the Manitoba Youth Ambassador with the Youth Mine Action Ambassador Program (YMAAP), a joint program of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Canadian Red Cross, and Mines Action Canada. His involvement with the global campaign to ban landmines has taken him to the USA, Bosnia, and most recently to Rwanda and Kenya.

He is currently on the Board of Directors of Mines Action Canada.
