Gaylene Dempsey
Needs Centre for War Affected Families
Throughout her childhood, Gaylene Dempsey was obsessed by the injustice of war and other human rights issues. After graduating from Red River College's Creative Communications program, she worked as a reporter, freelance writer, and in various capacities in the music business. More recently, she rediscovered she possesses a huge heart for war affected refugees and immigrants and their unique concerns, and began volunteering, then working at the Needs Centre for War Affected Families. She coordinates all outreach activities for the centre and oversees the Host Program for War Affected Families, which has matched 11 Sudanese refugee families with 11 Winnipeg area families as mentors. She plans to write a book on refugees and their faith journeys.
