Dr. Scott G. Isaksen

President, Creative Problem Solving Group, Inc. & Senior Research Fellow of its Creativity Research Unit

As a former professor and director of the Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State College, Isaksen has published over 160 articles or chapters in a variety of academic journals, popular publications, and books. He has written or edited The Handbook of Creative Learning (1982), Creative Problem Solving: The Basic Course (1985), Frontiers of Creativity Research: Beyond the Basics (1987), Identifying and Recognizing Creativity (1993), Nurturing and Developing Creativity (1993), Creative Approaches to Problem Solving (1994, 2000), Facilitative Leadership: Making a difference with CPS (2000) and Meeting the Innovation Challenge: Leadership for Transformation and Growth(2006). Isaksen has served the Center for Creative Leadership as a senior program associate and the Creative Education Foundation (CEF) as a faculty member and administrator, and was responsible for designing their leadership development program during the 1980’s. Isaksen is a colleague of the CEF, has received their Service and Commitment Award (1989) and the Distinguished Leader Award (1995). Isaksen currently serves as the Vice President of the Center for Creative Learning in Sarasota, Florida.

Since 1984, Isaksen has conducted more than 1,200 programs, courses, and workshops and worked with over 200 organizations and groups in more than 27 states and 20 different countries. Scott serves as a visiting faculty member to various universities. In 1996, he was awarded the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Isaksen is a Member of the Association for Psychological Type, the Product Development Management Association (PDMA) and the American Psychological Association (APA). He has served on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Creativity Research and Creativity & Innovation Management, and has served as a consulting editor for the Journal of Creative Behavior since 1983.

His work on creative leadership has been included in numerous international leadership development programs for IBM, Ogilvy & Mather, Oxford University, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and other major organizations, and his work on innovation was recently featured on World Business Review with Alexander Haig and Bob Gill, president of the PDMA.

He has earned a B.Sc. (Cum Laude, 1974), an M.Sc. from Buffalo State College in Creativity and Innovation (1977), and a Doctorate in Curriculum Design from the University at Buffalo (1983).
