Chuck Mrena
University of Winnipeg Climate Change Research Coordinator
The Coordinator’s position is housed and hosted by The University of Winnipeg’s Centre for Forest Interdisciplinary Research (C-FIR). As part of this position, he has the role of Manitoba Coordinator for the Prairie Adaptation Research Collaborative (PARC) and the Canadian Climate Impacts and Adaptation Research Network (C-CIARN).
Mr. Mrena has been a natural resources consultant for almost ten years. In this capacity has worked on numerous regional and international projects including the World Commission on Forests and Sustainable Development (while at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)), the International Flood Mitigation initiative (IFMI) as a staff person and facilitator for the province of Manitoba, and a review of the Kyoto Protocol when it was first released in 1997. Mr. Mrena has also worked with and for a number of ENGOs including the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Manitoba Eco Network.
Mr. Mrena completed his undergrad degree at The University of Winnipeg, with majors in geography and science, holds a Masters of Natural Resources Management (focused on bioengineering) and is currently working on his PhD (University of Manitoba) with his area of research being the identification of policy mechanisms to integrate climate change impacts in decision-making processes. He instructs a course on climate change policy in Canada.
