Shaunna Morgan
Research Associate
Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER)
Ms. Morgan has ten years of research experience and post-secondary teaching experience in the field of biological sciences. She is knowledgeable of the following: Boreal forest ecology, conservation, non-timber forest products, FSC forestry certification, environmental monitoring, environmental contaminants in traditional foods, waste management, environmental benefits of roof gardens, Indigenous knowledge and climate change. Ms. Morgan is a member of the James Bay Crees of Waskaganish. While with CIER, Ms. Morgan has honed her skills and abilities in project management, program review, curriculum development, lecture development and delivery, workshop and group facilitation, environmental video production, primary, secondary and participatory research.
Most recently Ms. Morgan has worked on the following:
- Waste management workshop and contaminants analyses;
- SmartWood FSC forest certification assessments for tribes in the United States;
- Climate change and renewable energy resource kit;
- Signals From the Forest – First Nations’ Observations of Climate Change video;
- Contaminants in traditional foods; and
- Steering committee Manitoba’s climate change public education and outreach hub – Climate Change Connection
Previously, Ms. Morgan worked as a sessional lecturer teaching introductory biology at the University of Manitoba. While acquiring bachelor's and master's degrees in Botany from the University of Manitoba, Ms. Morgan spent several years as a laboratory teaching assistant and research assistant for boreal and riparian forest research.
