Tuition Credit Accounts

The Opportunity Fund aims to close the graduation gap by helping students who might otherwise lack resources to earn tuition credits.

The “Earn as you Learn” approach is unique for a university in Canada. Students as early as Grade 4 can earn their learning by participating in science and sustainability programs – such as the Eco-Kids and EnviroTechs programs offered through UWinnipeg’s Innovative Learning Centre – or by getting involved in community green projects and student mentoring programs.

The investment of time and effort in these projects can assist Aboriginal students, young people from war-affected nations and refugee populations, and students from inner-city neighbourhoods obtain financial help and encouragement to be successful in school.

We offer children and teenagers the chance to earn up to $4,000 in their own tuition credit account. These are deferred scholarships.

By the time a student earns a high school diploma or an equivalency certificate, the support will there to help cover their tuition at The University of Winnipeg. We believe it’s important for children to know that a university education is indeed possible for them. How does it work?

  • Students from grade 4 through to grade 8 can earn up to $200 per year in their tuition credit account for each year of study completed.
  • Students from grade 9 through to grade 12 can earn up to $500 to $750 for each school year completed. Bonus credits are available for averages 70% or higher.

This is a pilot-project coordinated through our Innovative Learning Centre.
