Official CanTEST

The University Of Winnipeg English Language Program is an official testing site for the   CanTEST

(Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees).


Purpose of the Official CanTEST

  • The CanTEST is a standardized English proficiency test used to determine if you are able to meet admission requirements of Canadian post-secondary institutions or fluency requirements of professional licensing associations. 
  • The scores will also give you some idea of how much additional English language training you may need.

Registration for the University of Winnipeg CanTEST

There are several registration options for the Official CanTEST.


  • Basic CanTEST : Listening, Reading and Writing                            - $ 120.00
  • Listening, Reading and Writing (Basic) plus Speaking          - $ 180.00
  • Speaking Test (only)                                                                    - $ 60.00
  • Writing (re-test only)                                                                     - $ 60.00

Please note:

It is up to the candidate to check with his/her program of study to determine which sections of the test are required for admissions. You may need Basic only, or Basic + Speaking. * * Please check your faculty of admissions for entrance criteria.

An email confirming your registration for the CanTEST will be sent to you within 2 business days of receiving your registration and verifying your payment.

Important Dates !

  • Registration deadline : JUNE 18, 2013
  • A SEAT FOR THIS TEST CANNOT BE GUARANTEED  AFTER JUNE 18th, as the testing room may already be at full capacity.
  • If space permits, we will accept LATE applications until the deadline, but all applications received after deadline are subject to a $10.00 LATE REGISTRATION FEE.
  • Absolutely NO applications will be accepted after Friday, JUNE 21, 2013
  • NO refunds will be issued after Friday, JUNE 21, 2013


Please note:
  • Photo Identification must be government issued,clearly stating your name and date of birth.        (Passport, Permanent Resident Card, Driver's License etc).
  • University or College student ID cards will not be accepted as they do not state your date of birth.

Test Schedule and Additional Information  

  * Please report to the testing room at the time listed for the section(s) of the test you are taking

8:00-9:00 am: Sign-in (must have government issued photo ID)

9:00-9:50 am: WRITING

9:50-10:00 am: Break

10:00-11:10 am: READING (Skim & Scan and Reading)

11:10-11:20 am: Break

11:20 am-12:30 pm: LISTENING

12:30-1:00 pm: Break

1:00- 4:00 pm: ORAL INTERVIEWS

 
  • No cell phones, dictionaries, or translators are allowed in the test room
  • Latecomers to the test will not be seated
  • Paper will be supplied by The University of Winnipeg
  • Please bring several pencils with erasers to use for the test
  • Bottled drinks are allowed during the test

Information About Test Results

  • Participant results will be processed and mailed within 10 business days of the test date. ( Date of receipt is subject to Canada Post).  It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that contact information provided at the time of registration is current and accurate.
  • Scores cannot be released verbally, by email, or by phone under any circumstances.
  • Unofficial results are automatically sent to each testing candidate, The University of Winnipeg International Office and The University of Manitoba English Language Centre.
  • To send an OFFICIAL SCORE REPORT to any specific faculty at The University of Winnipeg, The University of Manitoba, or any other institution you must complete a Request for Official Score Report form.The cost is $15.00 per request.

Please Note:  CanTEST scores are valid for a two year period from the test date. Under no circumstances will OFFICIAL SCORE REPORTS be issued to any institution after test scores have expired.
