news-Lloyd Axworthy receives national award

Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Winnipeg, was honoured with a national award of excellence by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association at a Toronto reception on June 20, 2012.

The Association selected Axworthy to acknowledge his continued work as “an ambassador of fundamental Canadian values: compassion, generosity of spirit, openness…and fostering a better global society. We honour you for your work and commitment to social justice and equity, to inspire Canadians to think more closely and carefully about what many take for granted; their freedom.”

Dr. Phil Fontaine, prominent Aboriginal leader and member of UWinnipeg's Indigenous Advisory Circle, also received an award.
