Prospective Students

We recruit 15-20 graduate students per year for the two-year MDP program. We seek a cohort of students from across the Americas and from around the world. We build each cohort to be diverse with a mix of domestic and international students that have both Indigenous and non-Indigenous identities.

The MDP program trains interdisciplinary development practitioners across the core areas of health, natural sciences / environment, social sciences, and economics / management. There is a strong emphasis on the development of both analytical and applied skills in both the program and field-training. As an MDP graduate, you will be able to excel within Indigenous governments and organizations, at all levels both locally and abroad. You will be a skilled practitioner, able to rally a team of highly skilled others around you to focus in on Indigenous (and other) development challenges as they arise.

In addition to meeting the criteria for entrance to Graduate School, applicants should have some of the following:

  • experience and/or research achievement in the broad field of development practice,
  • some familiarity with Indigenous cultures and understanding of issues relating to indigenous development,
  • applied research design and project planning and management,
  • policy design and implementation
  • and some experience working as a development practitioner in a developing world context.
