Message from the Chair

Chair
Thank you for your interest in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health. As our name would suggest, we are a very close and dynamic faculty. As is the tradition of The University of Winnipeg, classes and faculty with a passion for teaching has allowed a positive learning environment for our students. Our mission states that we are intent on facilitating and environment where students can achieve their fullest potential in the classroom, research and community service. Many of our courses challenge our students to explore and participate in community programs. In turn, the community is invited on our campus to participate in our classroom experiences. All of this has provided for an exceptional "Living Laboratory" experience.
We are very pleased to have two vibrant student associations as part of our department. These include the University of Winnipeg Athletic Therapy Students Association (WATSA) and the University of Winnipeg Kinesiology Students Association . These two groups often work in cooperation to provide an friendly environment for all of our students. The student associations have helped to create an identity and cohesiveness for our students. They too are actively involved in supporting each other academically through study groups, tutoring and mentorship. They organize fund raising initiatives to support their programs and contribute to our scholarship program. Last but certainly not least, they ensure that all students feel welcome through regularly scheduled social events throughout the year.
Our academic programs are varied. We offer a three year BA degree primarily for students seeking to pursue an education degree either as part of the integrated program or as an after degree. Our two four year BA degrees allows our students to study in general studies or in a Coaching stream. The two BSc degrees focus on either Athletic Therapy or Exercise Science.
We are proud of our graduates who represent the University of Winnipeg in many dimensions of the workforce including but not limited to Teaching, Personal Fitness Training, Coaching, Athletic Therapy, Fitness Consulting, Recreation, Sport Administration, Sport Psychology, and Graduate Studies.
If there is anything we can do to answer any questions you may have, please do not hesitate to contact us.
