Arriving in Canada

Downtown Winnipeg Skyline

You will likely enter Canada through either Toronto or Vancouver and take a connecting flight to Winnipeg.

If you are arriving in late August or early September, the airports in Vancouver and Toronto will have a Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) information desk set up from mid-August through early September between 12 noon and 12 midnight. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to approach them. They will be located in the customs or immigration areas or near the main airport information desk.

Be prepared to produce the following documents upon arrival in Canada:

  • Letter of Permission from the Canadian Consulate or High Commission in your country
  • Passport, with Canadian entry (visitor visa or TRV) where required
  • Original or copy of Letter of Acceptance from The University of Winnipeg
  • Evidence of Financial Support
  • List of any items which you are sending separately, or which are not cleared personally at the time of your arrival; ask for the list to be stamped by immigration, if possible
  • Letters of Reference or any other documents recommended by the Canadian High Commission in your country

Carry these items and all other valuable papers, cash, credit cards and traveller’s cheques on your person rather than in hand or checked baggage.
