Glen Bergeron, PhD, CAT(C)

Glen is Professor and Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at The University of Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Physical Education in 1973 and a Masters of Science from the University of Alberta in 1978. Glen completed his PhD in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Manitoba in 1992.

Glen's teaching experience includes Human Anatomy, Prevention and Care of Sports Injures, Assessment of Upper and Lower Body Athletic Injuries, Rehabilitation of Upper and Lower Body Athletic Injuries, Therapeutic Modalities, Pathology, Issues in Health, Practicum I, II and III.

His research interests include Concussions, Epidemiology of sport injuries, and Rehabilitation of sport injuries.

He certified with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) in 1975. He served as an executive member of the CATA for eight years, four of those as President. He was also a founding member of the Manitoba Athletic Therapists Association and was the first President of the Sport Medicine Council of Manitoba. His contribution to the CATA has been acknowledged by way of a Special recognition award in 1984; The Outstanding Educator Award in 1993 and his induction into the CATA Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2006, Glen once again assumed the duties of the President of the CATA and then Ex Officio to the CATA Board of Directors in 2007. He is currently the Ex-Officio to the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Athletic Therapists Association.

Glen was the Head Athletic Therapist at the University of Winnipeg for ten years prior to accepting the position as Director of Athletic Therapy at the University of Manitoba in 1987. He returned to The University of Winnipeg in 1996 to implement the athletic therapy curriculum.

Glen brings with him a wealth of clinical skills and experiences at the university, professional, national and international levels including his selection to the host medical team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, the Canadian Medical Team for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Chief Therapist for the 1990 Western Canada Summer Games, the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, the 1995 World Cross Country Running Championships in Durham England and the Chief Therapist for the 1995 World University Games in Japan. He worked as the coordinator of Athletic Therapy Services at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, the Chief Therapist for Canadian medical team at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia and on a member of the Canadian Medical team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. He was awarded the 2000 Premier's Volunteer award in Manitoba and received the Clarence Atchison Award for community service as part of convocation ceremonies at The University of Winnipeg in 2003.

Glen was the Director of The University of Winnipeg Global College Institute of Health, Security and Human Potential 2004 - 2006; Chair of the Manitoba Brain Injury Mock Car Crash Committee (2003 - 2009), and Chair of St Raphael Wellness Centre (2007 - 2010).

Glen was also on the Board of Directors of Sport Manitoba from 1996 - 2001, Chairperson of the National Sport Centre - Manitoba 1996 -2001; President of the Manitoba Brain Injury Association (MBIA) from 1996 - 2005 and the President of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association, 2006; Vice - President of the Sport Medicine Council of Manitoba 2004- 2006.
