"The people I have met and the places I have visited with Global College have increased my desire to study and work in the field of human rights. Our one-of-a-kind program has allowed me to take courses from over 10 different departments, travel to the UN Headquarters in New York City, and meet inspirational people with amazing stories and ideas to share.”

GCSAC Co-Chair 2012-2013

"The Global College is important to this university because the study of human rights can be applied to so many fields. I enjoy being involved with the GCSAC because I can apply my education in human rights practically, while attending and planning interesting events and meeting incredible people along the way."

Megan Fultz

Fourth year HRGS student, GCSAC Co-Director 2011-2012

"The Human Rights and Global Studies program takes learning beyond the classroom in order to foster leadership, tolerance, and global citizenship."

Geri Beveridge

HRGS Adult Audit Student

"As an adult (audit) student in Dr. McPhedran’s captivating course on Global Studies, I expanded my learning about grass roots global development projects and was inspired to make a difference through local/international opportunity projects. Dr. McPhedran’s course strengthened my critical analysis skills and helped me think “outside the box” about important global issues. It expanded my concern about human rights, as a global citizen."

Internships through the Youth Employment Network (YEN) at the International Labour Organization (ILO) of the United Nations

Congratulations to Nicole Ferland, a University of Winnipeg recent graduate of the Human Rights and Global Studies degree! She is one of five new Canadian graduates who received competitive international placements though the Youth Employment Network (YEN) at the International Labour Organization (ILO) of the United Nations.

”Nicole said, "I will be working in Jakarta on youth employment issues, which is really important. If you have a large population of unemployed youth they get restless, and it can lead to instability,” said Ferland. “It is also a human rights issue because everyone should have access to fair employment.”"

The YEN 'Associates' of 2011 each went on a six-month placement to one of the following: Accra, Ghana; Jakarta, Indonesia; Dakar, Senegal; Nairobi, Kenya; Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. The Global College/YEN program is designed to increase employment with young professionals seeking employment in the international development field.
